(OROMOCTO, NB) The 2016-2017 U Sports Track and Field season is officially underway for the UNB Varsity Reds Track and Field team.
The Varsity Reds took part in their first competition of the season, at the 17th annual Gagetown Invitational, hosted by Athletics New Brunswick.
The women's team had a solid day of performances across the board, with Sydney MacDonald leading the team in the 60 metres, in 8.16, and shot put, with a distance of 9.49 metres.
Last year's UNB and AUS rookie of the year, Victoria LeBlanc, ran 44.68 in the 300 metres, which was the top time for the team. Second year athlete Nadia Wysote ran 1:44.30 in the 600 metres.
"Our women's team is a small, but mighty group," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "While we're lacking the team size that we would like, we feel confident that over the course of the season they will be able to come together to achieve some amazing things."
