Comeau Rink Picks Up First Win

(FREDERICTON, NB) Two teams are still perfect through two days of competition at the 2018 Subway Atlantic University Sport Curling Championships, in Fredericton.

On the women’s side, Krista Nix’s Mount Allison rink is 3-and-0 after a 7-1 win over Saint Mary’s.

The Mounties scored twice in both the fifth and seventh ends in a game that was called after the seventh.

On the men’s side, Robert Mayhew’s Dalhousie foursome is also 3-and-0 after a close 5-4 win over the host UNB Varsity Reds, and a 7-2 win over Memorial.

Mayhew scored four in the sixth end against the Sea-Hawks.

In other women’s action on Friday, the UPEI Panthers improved to 3-and-1 with a 4-2 win over Dal and an 11-1 thumping of Saint Mary’s.

UNB’s Justine Comeau rink picked up their first win, beating St FX 4-2.

In other men’s action on Friday, UNB’s Jack Smeltzer rink scored four in the second end and three more in the sixth, on route to a 9-1 win over X.

Smeltzer’s foursome is now 2-and-1.

After their loss to Dal, Memorial’s Greg Blyde rebounded with a 9-3 win over Acadia’s Seth Doucette.

Saint Mary’s Adam Cocks moved to 2-and-1 with an 8-3 win over X and an 8-2 win over Acadia.

The final three draws will be played on Saturday, at Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club.

They go at 9:30am, 2:00pm and 7:00pm.

Semi-finals and the two championship games will be played on Sunday.
