(FREDERICTON, NB) Some of the top university cross country runners in Canada will descend on Fredericton’s Odell Park, on Saturday.
The 2016 UNB STU Invitational is also serving as the AUS-RSEQ Interlock event for the season.
The day promises to be one of the most competitive cross country events in Atlantic Canada in 2016.
Both the men’s and women’s races will see nationally-ranked teams going head to head.
In the men’s event, which will cover 8 kilometres, the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men are ninth in the latest CIS rankings, while Laval is number one. The X-Men hope their experience on the Odell Park course will give them a competitive edge.
UNB’s Joshua Shanks(Lepreau, NB) will look to improve on his fifth place finish at last weekend’s Dal/SMU Invitational, in Halifax.
The women’s race will be run over 6 kilometres, and will feature the seventh-ranked Dal Tigers, looking to remain unbeaten this season.
For the majority of teams, the Fredericton meet will be their last competition before their respective conference championship meets, at the end of the month. The Atlantic University Sport cross country championships take place on October 29th, at St. FX.
Saturday’s women’s race will begin at 12:00PM, while the men’s start is scheduled for 12:45PM.
