(BANGOR, Maine) Josh Shanks led the field, as the UNB Varsity Reds men’s cross-country team opened their season, in Bangor, Maine, on Saturday.
Shanks ran to victory in the men’s event at the Husson Harrier Invitational.
The third year Red covered the 6.92km course in a time of 24:15.3s.
It was the first victory for Shanks in the Varsity Reds singlet, and a great start for the reigning Varsity Reds cross country MVP.
Finishing in 10th overall was second year athlete Ben Tremblay, in a time of 26:09.2s.
Rookie Michael Colford ran 13th, with a time of 27:07.5s.
Ian Verschoor was 16th. Tyler Adams was 19th. Troy Dobson ran 23rd, and Felipe Lamprea was 24th.
After the running of the men’s and women’s races, head coach Tim Randall said, “It means a lot to see two VReds athletes standing on top of the podium.”
UNB finished second in the team competition with 57pts. Southern Maine won the team title competition with 24 points and St. Joseph’s was third with 83.
