(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds are proud to announce that 95 student-athletes have been named as U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians for 2016-17.
95 represents 44% of the Varsity Reds 214 student-athletes. That is the highest percentage, for the Varsity Reds, in the history of the Academic All-Canadian program.
Academic All-Canadian status celebrates earning at least an 80% average while participating as a varsity athlete.
“This is an incredible accomplishment, one worth celebrating,” said John Richard, UNB’s Director of Athletics. “These student-athletes have distinguished themselves on the field of play and in the classroom. Their ability to balance the demands of academics, varsity sports and the community outreach our teams participate in is worthy of praise.”

Lauren Adam, of the women’s swimming team, and Cam Braes, of the men’s hockey team, will be UNB’s nominees to Atlantic University Sport for the selection of the conference’s nominees for the Top 8 Academic All-Canadians and the Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian Commendation.
Both had 4.3 Grade Point Averages in 2016-17, while reaching high standards in athletic competition.
Adam earned silver and bronze medals at the Atlantic University Sports swimming championship, qualifying for the U SPORTS championships.
Braes was named a tournament all-star after leading the Varsity Reds men’s hockey team to its second consecutive University Cup.
